I’ve Been Praying for You All of My Son’s Life
Written for Belinda

Since my son was young I have prayed for you. I’ve prayed, “Lord, choose a girl whose love is pure;
Dear Lord, let her love be first focused on You, and then, oh God, let her heart beat true.
Find for him one whose love is tender and rare.”
I’ve been praying for you all of my son’s life,
Praying, “Lord, help him to select his perfect wife.”
I wept, “Dear Jesus, help him pick just the right one.
A young woman who will love him knowing he is Your son;
One who will follow as he walks the path You have laid.
Make her humble and bold, timid but fearless, strong yet meek.
Place within her a heart of gold— bind them together while they travel their road.”
I’ve been praying for you all of my son’s life,
Praying, “Lord, help him to select his perfect wife.”
I cared not for what you looked like, neither shape nor color of skin;
I cared not for the things that you have or own, but what shines from within.
My one and only prayer was that you would love the Lord
With all that you are and all that you are yet to become.
I’ve been praying for you all of my son’s life
Praying, “Lord, help him to select his perfect wife.”
I’ve raised my son to honor and cherish the things that he loves,
To be a man who is honest and true, not only to God but also to you.
Each time I prayed, I pictured you there;
But I saw not your eyes, your smile, nor hair.
Instead I saw a soul radiating love and kindness, a bond so deep,
Virtue so true— I saw in your heart God’s love shining through.

You see sweet Belinda…

I’ve been praying for You all of my son’s life
Praying, “Lord, help Matthew to select his perfect wife.”
